The word pedigree is thrown around a lot in the lead up to every Kentucky Derby. Usually, it's in regard to the horses and who they've descended from.

This year, it's time to use the word pedigree with a jockey, Chris Elliott.

Elliott is just 20 years old and will ride in his first Kentucky Derby. He's on board Right To Party.

And Elliott's dad knows how to get the job done at Churchill Downs.

Stewart Elliott rode Smarty Jones to the 2004 Kentucky Derby win.

The Louisville Courier Journal shares that there are believed to be at least three prior father-son duos to have both raced in the Kentucky Derby during their jockey careers.

“I’m extremely proud,” Stewart Elliott told the Courier Journal. “I’m grateful that he’s doing this well and having success at some tough tracks. It’s tough where he’s been. The whole deal has been great.”

Chris Elliott also isn't taking it for granted that he's out there at all.

“I’m looking forward to the experience,” Elliott told the Courier Journal. “It’s something that every jockey dreams of, just being able to ride the race. There are so many talented riders all over the country that have been riding for 20, 30, 40 years and never gotten the horse to go to the Derby.

According to the Courier Journal, Elliott is the youngest to ride in the Derby since Fernando Jara rode Jazil to a fourth-place finish as an 18-year old in 2006, then rode Cowtown Cat to 20th at 19 in 2007.

Chris Elliott turned 20 on April 19, and the Derby is just around the corner.
