McGavock High School is turning to a familiar face to lead its football program into a new era. The school has announced the hiring of Nicholas Haddock as its new TSSAA head coach, replacing Frederick Burnette. For Haddock, this is a homecoming story; he's a McGavock graduate and former Raider defensive lineman, now tasked with revitalizing the program he once played for.
The change comes after five seasons under Coach Burnette, who compiled a 17-35 record. The search for a new leader has concluded with a candidate deeply connected to the school's culture. Haddock returns to Nashville after building an impressive resume as an assistant coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, his own alma mater. There, he wore many hats, coaching defensive linemen and linebackers, serving as run game coordinator, and making a significant impact as recruiting coordinator, where he was responsible for bringing in the three largest recruiting classes in the school's history.
In his statement, Haddock's passion for the opportunity was clear. "As a kid, you dream of one day leading your high school football program as head coach. To now have the opportunity to live that dream is truly a blessing," he said. "I’m grateful for this opportunity and excited to bring winning football back to the red and blue. Let’s work, Raider Nation." This connection often fuels a unique drive and understanding of what it means to represent a community on the field.
School administration is equally enthusiastic about the hire. McGavock executive principal Bruce Jackson highlighted the intangibles Haddock brings: "We are proud to welcome Coach Haddock back home... This appointment is part of a wave of coaching changes in Metro Nashville, following closely on the heels of Hillsboro High School hiring Jamaal Stewart. For McGavock, betting on a beloved alumnus with proven recruiting and defensive expertise signals a fresh start and a commitment to building a winning tradition from the ground up.
