The Sphere dream is dead, but Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 is still alive. With Las Vegas venue plans shifting, the long-awaited rematch is now targeting T-Mobile Arena or MGM Grand Garden Arena for September.

The dream of staging Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2 inside the futuristic Sphere in Las Vegas has officially been KO'd, but don't count out the rematch just yet. The long-awaited sequel is still very much alive, and it's now eyeing a new home at either T-Mobile Arena or MGM Grand Garden Arena for a September showdown.

Earlier this week, Sphere Las Vegas announced new dates for the Eagles' ongoing residency, locking in September 18 and 19—exactly the window Manny Pacquiao Promotions had targeted for the fight. With the venue booked for the band, the rematch was effectively left without a ring. But according to sources close to the situation, the venue change was inevitable regardless of the Eagles' schedule. The core issue? The Sphere lacks a direct casino connection, which is a dealbreaker for the high-roller ticket packages that fuel fight week economics in Sin City. "It's one million percent not happening there," an official told BoxingScene, warning fans to steer clear of any ticket brokers still advertising Sphere seats.

Now, the fight is pivoting to MGM-affiliated venues that have hosted some of boxing's biggest nights. T-Mobile Arena and MGM Grand Garden Arena are both in the mix, and Netflix remains committed to broadcasting the rematch globally at no extra cost to subscribers—following the same model used for the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson event in 2024. It's a savvy move that could bring this rematch to a massive audience.

The road to this fight has been anything but smooth. Mayweather publicly called the event an exhibition earlier this spring, while Pacquiao's camp insisted it was a sanctioned professional bout. Tensions escalated when Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur alleged a breach of contract and issued clarification deadlines. But by mid-April, both sides confirmed the fight would proceed as a professional contest, putting fans at ease.

According to The Ring's Mike Coppinger, Mathur confirmed that Mayweather and Pacquiao have agreed to terms on an amended deal for a professional fight on Netflix, now targeting Friday, September 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, a September 26 date at MGM Grand Garden Arena is also being considered as a strong alternative. Either way, boxing fans may finally get the rematch they've been waiting for—just without the $2.3 billion backdrop.
