ROCHESTER — Flora Bolster didn't exactly start her season in style. Back in April, the Mayo senior opened with a 93 in the Spartans' first meet — a number she clearly decided was unacceptable. Since then? She hasn't touched the 90s. Not once.
In nine straight meets, Bolster has shot 81 or better. Seven of those rounds have been in the 70s. And on Monday, at the Rochester Golf & Country Club, she kept that hot streak alive, firing a 79 to share medalist honors at the All-City Invitational.
Sharing that spotlight with her was Century freshman Charlotte Perry — one of Rochester's brightest young talents. Perry matched Bolster's 79 with a round that featured 10 pars and a birdie, marking her best performance of the season. Her scoring average dropped from 90.63 to 89.3 per 18 holes in a single day, a sign of just how far she's come.
Bolster, meanwhile, carded seven pars and two birdies — both on the back nine, including a beauty on the 114-yard, par-3 14th. Her steady hand helped Mayo claim the team title with a score of 339, a commanding 22-shot win over runner-up Lourdes (361). Lourdes was led by junior Paige Moeschler's round of 82.
Mayo's depth was on full display. Sophomore Dylan Raukar added an 81, while freshmen Aubrey Evenson (89) and Sloane Bolster (90) rounded out the winning lineup. Century finished third (369), led by Perry, while John Marshall took fourth (385) behind junior Ashtyn Krenke, who made three birdies in her round of 85.
On the boys' side, Century senior Brennan Weckwerth is having a season for the ages. Through 11 rounds, he hasn't posted a single score above 79 — and on Monday, he did something no one else in the field could manage: break par. His 1-under 69 was the only sub-70 round of the day, earning him medalist honors by four shots.
Weckwerth was a model of consistency, with three birdies, 13 pars, and just two bogeys — both on tricky par-3s. His performance powered Century to the team title with a 303, five shots clear of runner-up Lourdes. Lourdes senior Owen Hoehn was the individual runner-up, shooting a 3-over 73 that included four birdies.
Weckwerth now owns the best scoring average in southeastern Minnesota at 72.91 per 18 holes. Not bad for a senior who's been in the 60s or 70s every single time he's stepped on the course.
