The league will reveal winners throughout the playoffs and release ballots after the final award has been announced.

The ballots are officially in for the 2025-26 NBA regular season awards, and as a voter for the second straight year, I'm pulling back the curtain on my selections. While the league will announce winners throughout the playoffs, here's a first look at my picks and the reasoning behind them.

For Most Valuable Player, my vote goes to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. When the game was on the line, no one was more dominant. SGA led the entire NBA in clutch scoring, averaging 6.5 points in games within five points in the final five minutes, propelling the defending champs to a stellar 20-7 record in those high-pressure moments. His efficiency in the clutch—shooting over 51% from the field—cements his status as the league's premier closer and most valuable player.

The Defensive Player of the Year award was perhaps the easiest decision on the ballot. After being ineligible last season, Victor Wembanyama is simply unavoidable. The 7-foot-4 phenom is a defensive system unto himself, capable of guarding all five positions and erasing shots at the rim. Leading the league with 3.1 blocks per game, he transforms the paint into a no-fly zone and is the clear choice for this honor.

My selection for Most Improved Player might raise some eyebrows: Jalen Duren of the Detroit Pistons. Duren's leap from solid contributor to All-Star caliber center was instrumental in Detroit's remarkable 60-win season—their first since 2006. He boosted his scoring average by eight points to nearly 20 per game while grabbing over 10 rebounds. His ability to carry the team, especially during an 11-game stretch without Cade Cunningham, showcased his immense growth and value.

Finally, in a forward-looking pick, I've named Cooper Flagg as my Rookie of the Year. The anticipation for his arrival is sky-high, and based on his projected two-way impact and immediate role, he's poised to make the most significant splash in the 2026-27 class.

The race for these awards is always thrilling, highlighting the incredible talent and dramatic improvements that define an NBA season. Stay tuned as the official results are unveiled this postseason.
