After scoring the only goal of the Reds’ 1-0 triumph over Chelsea last week, Cunha was unable to make an impact this time around due to injury.

He was withdrawn in the closing stages at Stamford Bridge, having felt some discomfort in his groin.

The same problem ruled him out this evening, with Michael Carrick opting for a front three of Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, the latter of whom netted his 10th Premier League goal of the term.

Post-match, Cunha took to Instagram to show that he was in attendance at Old Trafford to rally behind the squad, and captioned his story post: “Bravo guys! We all love that!”

Further, he shared a snap of his compatriot Casemiro celebrating his opener by clutching the United badge, adding: “One more year… Casemiro”.

Cunha now has six days to reach match fitness to ensure he’s back in the fold in time to face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon (3.30pm kick-off).

The fixture could see United record their first league double over their arch-rivals in 10 years, so Carrick will be keen to have as much firepower at his disposal as possible.

Although the Brazilian attacker missed out tonight, Patrick Dorgu did make his long-awaited return to the matchday squad following a three-month layoff.

The manager ultimately decided against bringing him on – perhaps he would’ve done so had United been trailing. However, it’s still a major boost for the final four matches.
