Manchester United are stepping up their search for Casemiro's long-term replacement, with the Brazilian veteran set to leave at the end of the season for a reported move to Inter Miami. The Red Devils had hoped Manuel Ugarte would fill those big shoes, but the Uruguayan has struggled to make an impact, leaving INEOS determined to get their next midfield signing right.

Atalanta's Ederson has been linked, but United's ownership prefers players with Premier League experience. Club captain Bruno Fernandes has been pushing for West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, and the Red Devils have finally started to act on that recommendation.

The 21-year-old former Southampton star can play across midfield, excelling both defensively and in possession—exactly the kind of engine-room presence Michael Carrick needs next season. West Ham would love to keep him, but with relegation looming, a sale seems inevitable.

It won't be easy for United, though. Competition is fierce, and Fernandes carries a hefty price tag. Now Arsenal have entered the race, with Mikel Arteta reportedly pushing to hijack United's deal for the versatile Portuguese midfielder. According to The Times, Arteta values Fernandes' ability to play deeper or further forward, a trait that has helped him notch five goals and four assists in 40 appearances this season.

European giants like Paris Saint-Germain are also circling, with interest in both Fernandes and Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez. Fernandes is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, but with Arsenal and PSG lurking, this summer's transfer battle is only heating up.
