Mason Mount is making it clear: he's not ready to wave the white flag at Manchester United just yet.
As INEOS prepares for a major summer overhaul—leveraging Champions League revenue and trimming the wage bill through player sales—Mount has emerged as a potential departure. But according to The Sun, the 27-year-old midfielder is digging in his heels, determined to prove his worth under manager Michael Carrick.
It's been a rocky road since Mount swapped Chelsea for Old Trafford in July 2023, arriving for an initial £55 million. Injuries have plagued his time in Manchester, limiting him to just 31 starts across all competitions in three seasons and causing him to miss a staggering 69 matches.
There was a glimmer of hope earlier this campaign, with Mount starting 10 times under Carrick. But familiar fitness issues resurfaced, and his only start in recent weeks—against Sunderland—was a struggle.
Still, the United No.7 believes there's more in the tank. With a contract running through 2028 (and a club option for an extra year), Mount is fully focused on reviving his Red Devils career. "Well-placed sources say Mount has had a challenging stop-start season but is fully dedicated to reviving his United career," the report notes.
This could be a make-or-break moment. INEOS is reportedly planning a ruthless clear-out, with the likes of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Manuel Ugarte, and Altay Bayindir also on the chopping block. For Mount, it's a final chance to prove he belongs in the plans at the Theatre of Dreams—and to show that his best days in a United shirt are still ahead of him.
