Former NBA champion Marreese Speights is stepping away from the sidelines. The 2015 Golden State Warriors title winner announced on social media that he has resigned as head boys basketball coach at Northside Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida.
"Thank you, Northside Christian, for this opportunity," Speights wrote. "It was truly a blessing to lead the program over the last year and build so many meaningful relationships. I especially want to thank Brandon Elam for believing in me. You taught me a lot, and I learned so much from your guidance and support. I hope I left the program better than I found it. As I head back to college, I leave with nothing but respect and appreciation for Northside Christian. God's timing—thank you, Northside. It was amazing! Next chapter loading…"
Speights, who was hired in April 2025 for his first high school head coaching role in Pinellas County, led the Mustangs to a solid 19-12 record during the 2025-26 season. The team finished ranked No. 96 in the state according to the final Florida High School Boys Basketball Massey Rankings.
Before trading the clipboard for a whistle, Speights enjoyed a decorated 10-year NBA career. He played 705 regular-season games, averaging 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest, and appeared in 60 playoff games. His journey took him through six teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Golden State Warriors. Notably, Speights is one of only 47 players in history to win both an NCAA national championship and an NBA championship.
