The Golden Eagles have added Rodney Crawford and Jeremy Ballard this off-season to Shaka Smart's coaching staff.

Marquette's new-look coaching staff under Shaka Smart is officially set, and the Golden Eagles are bringing in some serious experience to the bench.

The program announced on May 12 that Rodney Crawford has joined as an assistant coach, rounding out the staff for the upcoming season. Crawford arrives after five seasons at South Alabama, where he spent the last three as associate head coach. He's known for his defensive mindset and player development—two traits that fit perfectly into Smart's high-energy system.

Crawford isn't coming in alone. He'll work alongside Jeremy Ballard, who was hired back in April, as the new faces on Smart's staff. They step in to replace Nevada Smith (now head coach at Siena) and DeAndre Haynes, both of whom moved on after last season.

"Coach Rock brings incredible passion, toughness and basketball acumen to our program," Smart said. "Over his career, he's proven that he can help players elevate their games and consistently impact the defensive end with his presence and grit."

Before his time at South Alabama, Crawford built a solid résumé with stops at Cincinnati, Fordham, and Eastern Kentucky. He also has firsthand experience with the high-major grind, having played for the Bearcats from 2000-2002.

For Crawford, this move is a homecoming of sorts to the Big East stage—and he's ready to dive in. "Joining Marquette is truly an honor," he said. "I've always had tremendous respect for Coach Smart and the culture he has built. The energy, toughness, and connectedness of his teams have always stood out to me. The opportunity to be part of a program defined by strong values, passionate people, and a championship mindset is something I'm incredibly grateful for. I'm excited to be in Milwaukee and ready to get to work."

With the staff now fully assembled, Marquette fans have plenty of reason to be optimistic. Smart's blend of veteran assistants and fresh energy could be exactly what the Golden Eagles need to make noise in the Big East next season.
