Inter President Beppe Marotta has opened up about the bold decision to appoint Cristian Chivu as head coach, admitting that while the club didn't expect an instant Scudetto triumph, they trusted their instincts—and it's paying off in spectacular fashion.

"We didn't go in blind, but we showed courage," Marotta told DAZN Italia ahead of Inter's crucial Serie A clash with Parma at San Siro. With just one point needed to seal the title, the Nerazzurri are on the cusp of glory after Napoli and Milan both dropped points over the weekend.

Chivu's appointment was a contentious one when he replaced Simone Inzaghi, but the former Inter defender has silenced doubters by guiding the team to the brink of the Scudetto—and potentially the Coppa Italia as well. Marotta admitted even he was surprised by the speed of success: "If it ends with the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia, that would be a truly extraordinary season."

"An important value for Inter is courage," Marotta continued. "I think that is the main fuel behind this decision made by the owners on one side and the management on the other. We evaluated Chivu's skills and characteristics, which suited our needs and our weaknesses. We had no doubts he would have a positive campaign."

As the champagne sits on ice in the dressing room, Inter know that a draw against Parma will be enough to start the party. But Marotta remains cautious: "Let's be prudent here. This is the most important exam for the diploma, and we'll give it our all to achieve this target that would make the fans, players, club and coach happy."

For a club that prides itself on bold decisions, this season's potential double is a testament to the courage Marotta speaks of—and a reminder that sometimes, the biggest risks yield the greatest rewards.
