The Florida Marlins placed left-handed pitcher Robby Snelling on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday, one day after the team's No. 2 pitching prospect reported discomfort in his left elbow after a bullpen session. Snelling, who made his MLB debut on May 8 with five solid innings in a loss to the Nationals, was scheduled to start Thursday's series finale against the Twins at Target Field. Instead, RHP Braxton Garrett has joined the team in Minneapolis and is expected to be activated for Thursday's game.

The Florida Marlins have hit an early-season speed bump with their prized pitching prospect. Left-hander Robby Snelling, the organization's No. 2 ranked pitching prospect, has been placed on the 15-day injured list after reporting discomfort in his left elbow following a bullpen session on Tuesday.

This is a tough break for the 22-year-old, who just made his highly anticipated MLB debut on May 8. In that outing, Snelling showed flashes of his potential, tossing five solid innings against the Nationals despite taking the loss. He was slated to start Thursday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, but those plans have been scrapped.

Stepping in to fill the void is right-hander Braxton Garrett, who has joined the team in Minneapolis and is expected to be activated for Thursday's game. Garrett brings valuable experience to the rotation, having been a steady presence for Miami in recent seasons.

Snelling's journey to the majors has been a notable one. The Marlins acquired him from the San Diego Padres in July 2024 as part of the trade that sent reliever Tanner Scott to the West Coast. Since arriving in Miami's system, he quickly climbed the prospect rankings, earning a promotion from Triple-A Jacksonville just last week.

"Robby was certainly disappointed," Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said. "You know, you work your entire life for the opportunity to become a major league player, and you come up, and you make your major league debut, and then for something to pop up like this very shortly after, it's disappointing."

To round out the roster, the Marlins activated veteran closer Pete Fairbanks from the 15-day IL. Fairbanks had been sidelined since April 27 due to nerve irritation in his right hand, and his return adds a much-needed boost to the bullpen.

For now, Snelling's focus will be on recovery and rehab, while the Marlins look to stay competitive in a tight division race. Baseball fans will be watching closely to see how this young arm bounces back—and you can bet his jersey will be a hot item for collectors and supporters alike.
