Jannik Sinner is through to the Madrid Open final after seeing off Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4. Both came into the match unbeaten on clay this season, but it was Sinner who kept that run going in Spain.

Jannik Sinner continued his dominant clay-court campaign, powering past Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4 to secure a spot in the Madrid Open final. Both players entered the match with unbeaten records on clay this season, but it was the Italian who kept his streak alive in commanding fashion.

After the match, former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli offered sharp insight into where the young Frenchman went wrong. Speaking on Sky Sports, she highlighted a recurring issue in Fils' game: his tendency to rush.

"It was a bit of a repeat of the Doha final against Carlos Alcaraz, where he goes too fast too soon," Bartoli explained. "You feel like he was on the back foot almost constantly for the first 25 minutes. On that surface and court, the ball just goes everywhere, and on top of that, you're feeling the pressure of an opponent who frankly doesn't give you anything."

Bartoli's critique echoes comments she made earlier this year during Indian Wells, where she noted that Fils often struggles against top-tier opposition because he refuses to slow down. "He's a player who wants everything quickly," she said. "He doesn't necessarily want to be in long rallies or play slowly."

It's a pattern that's held the 21-year-old back from breaking through against the sport's elite. While his explosive style can overwhelm lesser opponents, players like Sinner and Alcaraz thrive on that pace—turning it back on him with relentless consistency.

Fils now turns his attention to the Italian Open, where he made a strong run last year, reaching the fourth round with wins over Tallon Griekspoor and Stefanos Tsitsipas before falling to Alexander Zverev. This time around, he'll be looking to go even deeper. And there's a twist: Sinner, nursing an injury picked up in Madrid, may sit out his home tournament to prioritize the upcoming French Open. If that happens, the door could swing wide open for Fils to make a statement.

For Sinner, a win in Madrid would stretch his lead at the top of the rankings—opening up a massive 10,000+ point gap over Felix Auger-Aliassime. But for Fils, the lesson from Bartoli is clear: sometimes, the fastest path to victory is learning to slow down.
