Marine Johannes is making history—and doing it in style. The New York Liberty guard delivered a scorching performance against the Washington Mystics on Sunday, leading her team to a thrilling 98-93 overtime victory at CareFirst Arena. With 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including a blistering 6-of-13 from beyond the arc, Johannes didn't just win the game; she etched her name into the WNBA record books.

Johannes became just the third player in league history to sink at least 10 three-pointers in the first two games of a season. She also joined Nikki McCray (2000) as the only players ever to start a season with consecutive games of five or more made threes. Not bad for a player who went undrafted in 2017.

The 31-year-old French guard has been on fire since tip-off. In Friday's season-opening 106-75 blowout over the Connecticut Sun, she dropped 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from deep, adding five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Veteran teammate Breanna Stewart has been equally unstoppable, posting 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks against the Mystics, following up her 31-point, 10-rebound masterpiece against the Sun.

Johannes has stepped up big time in the absence of superstar Sabrina Ionescu, who is sidelined for two weeks with a foot injury sustained during the preseason. Now in her third stint with the Liberty, Johannes is averaging career highs across the board—6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 18.3 minutes per game off the bench. With her hot hand and the team's back-to-back wins, the Liberty are proving they have depth, grit, and plenty of firepower to make noise this season.
