Swansea City's coaching setup has received a fresh injection of experience with the arrival of Andy Mangan as a first-team consultant. Assistant head coach Vitor Matos has been quick to highlight the value of this new addition, describing Mangan as a "really important asset" who brings distinct qualities to the staff.

Mangan, 39, has joined the Championship club on a deal running until the end of the season, reuniting with both Swansea CEO Tom Gorringe—with whom he worked at Bristol Rovers—and Matos himself, having been on the same professional licence coaching course. His appointment, though not formally announced by the club, was confirmed following inquiries and adds another layer to a growing backroom team.

"He's someone that I know from a long time ago and someone that I think adds quite a lot of value," Matos stated. "He has a big heart, he has experience in the leagues as well, he knows the players. I think he just added to us."

This move further expands a substantial coaching roster at the Swansea.com Stadium. Matos, who arrived last November, has already integrated Portuguese staff members Diogo Medeiros, Toze Mendes, and Goncalo Ricca from his former club Maritimo. They work alongside assistant Ryan Maye, head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, first-team coach Kristian O'Leary, and club legends Leon Britton and Joe Allen.

For Matos, the strength of a squad isn't just about the players on the pitch; it's about the collective brain trust on the training ground. "All of them have different roles," he explained. "The most important thing is that the players can drink off all of them and that helps the team to keep pushing themselves. You need the right human resources."

While Mangan's role is currently short-term, Matos did not dismiss the possibility of the former Fleetwood, Bristol Rovers, and Stockport coach extending his stay in Wales beyond this campaign, suggesting his impact could be felt well into the Swans' future.
