Roberto Mancini is reportedly filled with regret over his decision to step away from the Italian national team, with his son Andrea revealing that the former Azzurri boss would "gladly return tomorrow" if given the opportunity.

Andrea Mancini shared the emotional confession in an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio, saying: "My father has said even recently that he regrets having left the Nazionale, so he would love to close the circle by winning the World Cup. I am convinced that he would gladly return tomorrow morning for the Azzurri bench, if he had the chance."

The timing is particularly poignant, as Italy finds itself searching for a new direction after failing to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup—a painful reality for a nation that lives and breathes calcio. The coaching carousel has already seen Gennaro Gattuso tender his resignation, fueling speculation that Mancini could be among the candidates for a sensational return.

Mancini's legacy with Italy remains golden: he guided the Azzurri to their EURO 2020 triumph, the nation's first European Championship since 1968. His record from July 2018 to August 2023 was impressive—38 wins, 12 draws, and just eight defeats. But he walked away in August 2023, just weeks before crucial EURO 2024 qualifiers, to take the reins of the Saudi Arabia national team.

That Saudi stint lasted only 18 games until October 2024, and by November 2025, he had moved on to coach Qatari club side Al-Sadd. Now, with Italy looking for a fresh start, the door may be creaking open for a man who never truly wanted to leave.

For fans who remember the sheer joy of Mancini's Italy lifting the Henri Delaunay Trophy, the thought of his return feels like unfinished business. Whether the federation shares that sentiment remains to be seen—but the man himself seems ready to come home.
