Manchester City's global talent search is taking them south of the border. The Premier League champions have set their sights on Mexico's Liga MX, with scouts making a dedicated trip to evaluate potential signings from Pumas UNAM.

This move isn't surprising for a club that has consistently scouted emerging stars worldwide since the 2008 Abu Dhabi takeover. City's recruitment machine has uncovered gems from Brazil, Argentina, and across Europe—and now they're turning attention to Mexican football's rising prospects.

Pumas UNAM manager Efrain Juarez confirmed the interest. With a history tied to City Football Group—he served as an assistant coach for New York City FC from 2020-22—Juarez revealed the club's ownership reached out directly.

"Because of my relationship with the group, I worked there for three years. It's the biggest football group in the world," Juarez told Record. "They asked me about a couple of players, both from the youth academy and those currently on the first-team, who are already thinking about how they can strengthen their squads."

This scouting mission aligns with new director of football Hugo Viana's vision for the upcoming transfer window. City have recently been linked with young talents like Palmeiras' Eduardo Conceicao, Athletico Paranaense's Bruninho, and Bayer Leverkusen's Ibrahim Maza—and now Mexican prospects could join that list.

For City, this isn't just about signing players for themselves. Through the City Football Group—which also owns New York City FC, Girona, and Troyes—they can develop and distribute talent across multiple leagues. A young star from Pumas could end up in Manchester, or strengthen one of their sister clubs.

As the summer window approaches, expect City's global scouting network to stay busy. Mexico's Liga MX is producing exciting talent, and with Viana at the helm, the Etihad's recruitment strategy is only getting more ambitious.
