Ally McCoist has sparked fresh transfer speculation by suggesting Marcus Rashford would "thrive" at Arsenal this summer—a move that could shake up the Premier League landscape.
The Manchester United academy graduate is set to leave Old Trafford for the first time in his career when the summer transfer window opens. Currently on loan at Barcelona, the 28-year-old has impressed with 13 goals and 13 assists, though his permanent future remains uncertain.
Rashford's preference is to stay at Camp Nou long-term, but Barcelona must trigger his £26 million buy clause to make it happen. If that deal falls through, United are prepared to reintegrate him into their pre-season squad while exploring other options. That's where Arsenal enters the conversation.
McCoist believes the England international would be a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta's system, especially given Arsenal's recent struggles for consistent attacking output. "100 per cent I could see him playing there," McCoist told talkSPORT Bet Casino. "Marcus Rashford could thrive at Arsenal."
The Gunners have faced inconsistency from attackers like Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Kai Havertz this season. Rashford's proven Premier League experience and goal-scoring ability could provide the spark Arsenal needs to close the gap on Manchester City.
However, a direct move to a domestic rival would be controversial. Rashford has spent his entire career at Manchester United, and a switch to Arsenal would mark a dramatic shift in loyalties. McCoist acknowledged the challenge, noting, "They [Arsenal] would have to offload first," referencing the need to clear space in their attack.
With Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard already in the squad, competition would be fierce. But as McCoist pointed out, Rashford's form under Hansi Flick at Barcelona—"goal returns good, assists good"—proves he can still perform at the highest level.
Whether Arsenal can navigate the financial and squad constraints to make a move remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: if Rashford returns to the Premier League, the summer transfer window just got a whole lot more interesting.
