Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-2 to seal a return to the Champions League next season, while Tottenham climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.Villa should still secure Champions League qualification, but Bournemouth closed the gap on the top five to six points with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

In a thrilling Sunday of Premier League action, Manchester United secured their return to the Champions League with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford, while Tottenham Hotspur gave their survival hopes a massive boost by climbing out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

The Red Devils stormed out of the gates, scoring twice inside the first 15 minutes. Matheus Cunha's deflected strike from the edge of the box beat third-choice Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, before Benjamin Sesko bundled in from close range. United could have been even further ahead by halftime against a Liverpool side missing injured stars Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak.

But the visitors were gifted a way back into the game through United mistakes. Dominik Szoboszlai pounced on Amad Diallo's wayward pass to run from inside his own half and cut the deficit just two minutes into the second half. Szoboszlai then turned provider, teeing up Cody Gakpo to equalize after a stray pass from United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

With the match hanging in the balance, it was young Kobbie Mainoo who became the hero. Just days after signing a new five-year contract, the midfielder coolly slotted home from outside the box 13 minutes from time to seal the win. The victory, which guarantees Champions League football after a two-year absence, further strengthens interim boss Michael Carrick's case to stay on permanently. "I love doing what I'm doing, and it's a great position for me to be in," Carrick said. "It feels pretty natural, if I'm totally honest."

The result is a remarkable turnaround from last season, when Liverpool finished 14 places and 42 points ahead of United. Now, Arne Slot's men trail their old rivals by six points and still have work to do in the final three games to secure a top-five finish themselves.

Elsewhere, Tottenham finally found their rhythm after 118 days without a Premier League win. Despite a much-changed Aston Villa side, Spurs capitalized on their lifeline in the battle for survival. Villa should still secure Champions League qualification, but Bournemouth closed the gap on the top five to six points with a convincing 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
