The world's most popular sport is about to borrow a page from America's biggest sporting spectacle. For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup Final will feature a halftime show—and it's shaping up to be an unforgettable global celebration.

On Thursday, FIFA announced that music icons Madonna, Shakira, and BTS will headline the show during the July 19 championship match in New Jersey. Curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the performance promises to blend the international appeal of these artists with the universal passion for soccer.

Think of it as the Super Bowl halftime show, but with a truly global twist. Madonna represents American pop royalty, Shakira brings Latin fire from Colombia, and BTS delivers the unstoppable energy of South Korea's biggest boy band. Together, they'll create a lineup that mirrors the World Cup's own spirit of unity across borders.

But this isn't just about entertainment. The show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million to help children access education and soccer. As FIFA President Gianni Infantino put it, this is about bringing "music and football on the biggest stage in sport for a very special cause."

Shakira, who has sold over 95 million records worldwide, also performed this year's World Cup anthem "Dai Dai" with Nigerian star Burna Boy. Madonna, the defining female pop star of the '80s and '90s, has sold more than 200 million records. And BTS? Since their 2013 debut, they've moved 500 million album-equivalent units globally. Coldplay even teased the lineup on social media, hinting at appearances from "Sesame Street" characters as well.

Of course, soccer fans might wonder how this will work. World Cup halftimes are famously short—just 15 minutes by the Laws of the Game. Fitting a three-act show into that window is no small feat. But organizers are confident they can pull it off without delaying the action. "Soccer fans around the world can rest assured knowing that we're very respectful of the game," said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans.

The 2026 World Cup kicks off on June 10 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with all 104 matches airing on Fox, FS1, and their streaming apps. Whether you're tuning in for the soccer or the spectacle, this year's final is shaping up to be a landmark moment in sports and entertainment history.
