The Luton Town board praise head coach Jack Wilshere following a 'turnaround' season, despite missing out on the League One play-offs.

When Jack Wilshere took the helm at Luton Town in October, few could have predicted the remarkable turnaround that would unfold. The former Arsenal and England midfielder inherited a club reeling from back-to-back relegations, yet in his first managerial role, he has already stamped his authority on the Hatters' resurgence.

Despite narrowly missing the League One play-offs by a single point—finishing seventh after a final-day victory at fifth-placed Bolton—the Luton board has hailed the 2025-26 season as a "turnaround campaign." Under Wilshere's guidance, the team won 22 of 43 league matches and celebrated silverware with an EFL Trophy triumph at Wembley, defeating Stockport County in style.

"Jack deserves huge credit for finding the optimal balance between his footballing principles and the realities of League One," the board stated. "He has done a remarkable job with great aplomb." That balance has been key: Wilshere has blended his possession-based philosophy with the grit required in England's third tier, transforming a side that looked directionless into one that now plays with identity and purpose.

The journey hasn't been without its challenges. Wilshere replaced Matt Bloomfield after just a handful of interim games at Norwich City, stepping into a role that required immediate stability. Yet he quickly instilled resilience, guiding Luton from mid-table obscurity to the brink of promotion. The board believes that with "right additions" this summer, the Hatters can "challenge strongly" next season, especially as new Salary Cost Management Protocols create opportunities across the league.

Off the pitch, exciting times await. Luton are scheduled to move into a brand new 25,000-seater stadium at Power Court for the 2028-29 season, meaning next campaign will be their penultimate one at the historic Kenilworth Road. For a club on the rise, the foundations are being reinforced everywhere—from the dugout to the dressing room, and soon to a new home.

While missing the play-offs stings, the trajectory is clear: under Wilshere, Luton Town are heading in the right direction.
