Manchester United's director of football, Jason Wilcox, is on a mission to secure the brightest young talents in English football this summer—and Crystal Palace's teenage goalkeeper Lucca Benetton has become the latest name on his radar.

The 15-year-old England U17 international has been turning heads at Selhurst Park, where he's already trained with Palace's first team. But his standout moment came in late April, when he helped Palace lift the Premier League Under-18 Cup by beating United's highly-regarded U18 side 6-5 on penalties. Benetton was between the sticks for the Eagles, and his crucial save from the spot didn't go unnoticed by the Red Devils' scouting team.

According to sources, United are now tracking the young shot-stopper closely—and they're not alone. Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and Belgian side Club Brugge are also reportedly plotting moves for the promising goalkeeper, who is described as "very highly rated within the corridors of power" at Palace.

United's interest in Benetton makes even more sense given the likely departure of their own academy goalkeeper, Darlington Osuchukwu. The 16-year-old Spaniard, who joined from Gazte Berriak, has been a key figure for United's U16s and even made the bench for the U18s. But with links to Real Madrid and Athletic Club, and teammates sharing farewell messages on social media, Osuchukwu appears set to return to Spain.

Wilcox has been aggressive in targeting young prospects this summer, having already held talks with Leicester City over 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga, while also keeping tabs on Leicester youngsters Louis Page and Olabade Aluko. Adding Benetton to that list would signal United's intent to build for the future—one save at a time.
