LSU's roster is set for another shakeup, as junior forward Mike Nwoko plans to enter the Transfer Portal, according to a report from On3's Pete Nakos. This move will mark the fourth program in four years for the talented big man, continuing a trend of high-mobility in today's college basketball landscape.
The 6'10", 261-pound forward from Toronto is coming off his most productive season yet. In his lone year with the Tigers, Nwoko posted career-best averages of 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Despite his individual success, LSU struggled to a 15-17 record, missing the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season.
Nwoko's journey has been a winding one. His career began at Miami during the 2023-24 season, where he saw limited action in 29 games. After entering the portal for the first time, he landed at Mississippi State for the 2024-25 campaign. Playing under coach Chris Jans, he improved his averages to 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds for a Bulldogs team that reached the NCAA Tournament.
Now back in the portal, Nwoko instantly becomes one of the most sought-after frontcourt players available. His proven scoring ability in the rugged SEC—including a career-high 29-point outburst against Alcorn State and a 21-point performance in an overtime win over South Carolina—makes him a valuable commodity for any program seeking an immediate interior presence.
His departure is part of a larger trend of roster turnover at LSU since the departure of former head coach Will Wade. The program has posted a 60-70 overall record in the four seasons since, failing to reach March Madness. Interestingly, speculation is swirling about a potential return for Wade himself, who has rebuilt his coaching career with great success at McNeese State and recently took the NC State job. For Nwoko, the search for a fourth college home—and a chance to finally make a deep postseason run—begins anew.
