The Indiana Pacers have a big draft lottery coming up, but their 2026 offseason will be about much more than that.

As the Indiana Pacers gear up for the 2026 NBA Draft lottery on May 10, the team's future hangs in the balance—but this offseason is about much more than just luck. With a 52.1% chance of keeping their first-round pick, the Pacers are preparing for every scenario, knowing that their draft fate will shape the entire summer plan.

If the lottery gods smile on Indiana and the pick lands in the top four, they'll retain it. But if it slips to fifth or sixth, that pick heads to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the trade that brought center Ivica Zubac to town. "We were trying to protect our upside at the top of the draft mostly," GM Chad Buchanan explained back in February, acknowledging the calculated risk. Originally, the Pacers would have kept the pick if it fell between 10 and 30, but a tough finish to the season made that a moot point.

Now, it's essentially a coin flip. "When we made the trade, we knew there was risk involved," Buchanan said recently on 107.5 The Fan. "But we looked at the finances and both scenarios—keeping or losing the pick—and felt each offered opportunities to make our team better next year." With championship aspirations in sight, the Pacers are confident that a healthy roster can compete at the highest level.

Whether they land a top prospect or pivot to free agency, this offseason is a critical moment for Indiana. The lottery will set the stage, but the real work begins after the ping-pong balls stop bouncing.
