The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves to bolster their roster, and they've set their sights on a familiar name. General manager Joe Hortiz, fresh off his second draft with the team, is looking to add some veteran firepower to the tight end position.

In the 2026 NFL Draft, Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh focused heavily on the trenches, selecting six offensive and defensive linemen out of eight total picks. They also added a wide receiver and a safety, but notably passed on drafting a tight end. That leaves the current room led by Oronde Gadsden and free-agent addition Charlie Kolar—but the Chargers clearly want more depth and competition.

Enter David Njoku. The former Cleveland Browns tight end, a one-time Pro Bowler at just 29 years old, will be working out with the team on Monday. After his contract with the Browns expired this offseason, Njoku has surprisingly seen a quiet market. He's coming off a down year with 293 yards and four touchdowns, but just two seasons ago, he posted a career-high 882 yards and six scores.

While Njoku may not return to his peak form, adding him would give quarterback Justin Herbert another reliable target in an offense that could use more playmakers. For a team looking to make a playoff push, this could be a smart, low-risk move to add experience and athleticism to the passing game.

Stay tuned—this workout could be the first step in a key addition for the Chargers' offense.
