Tuesday night wasn't just another game for Knappa High School baseball—it was a celebration of a legend. The community came together to honor longtime coach Jeff Miller, whose remarkable 25-year tenure has left an indelible mark on the program. And the honors don't stop there: on November 7, Miller will be inducted into the 2026 Oregon High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Knappa Athletic Director Jenny Smith captured the moment perfectly in a heartfelt speech before Tuesday's game, later shared with The Astorian. "Today, we take a moment to recognize and honor a truly special figure in Knappa High School baseball," she began, setting the tone for an evening of gratitude and celebration.
Miller's numbers are nothing short of staggering. Over 24 seasons as head coach—plus one year as an assistant—he compiled a jaw-dropping 490-121 record. That's a winning percentage that speaks to a standard of excellence few programs ever achieve. Under his leadership, Knappa baseball became a powerhouse: four state championships, 11 semifinal appearances, and 18 trips to the quarterfinals. Twice, his teams ran the table undefeated—an incredible feat at any level.
But Miller's legacy goes far beyond the scoreboard. He helped develop 21 collegiate players, mentored eight State Players of the Year, and guided 19 Northwest League Players of the Year. His influence on young athletes—on and off the field—will resonate for generations. "He shaped young men, strengthened our community, and gave countless memories to players, families, and fans," Smith said.
The accolades speak for themselves: Miller was named Northwest League Coach of the Year 16 times, State Coach of the Year five times, and in 2018 earned the prestigious MaxPreps National Coach of the Year award. His program was built on toughness, discipline, and pride—values that turned Knappa baseball into a model for success.
As Miller prepares for his Hall of Fame induction, the message from Knappa is clear: "Coach Miller, thank you for your dedication, your passion, and the incredible legacy you leave behind. Knappa baseball is what it is because of you." For fans of the game, his story is a reminder that true greatness is measured not just in wins, but in the lives you touch along the way.
