Spring practice has wrapped up for the Texas Longhorns, and all eyes now turn to the critical summer months. While it's often called the "downtime" of the offseason, this period between spring camp and fall conditioning can make or break a season. For Texas, several key players need a productive summer to ensure the team hits the ground running in Week One.
Let's start with the offensive line, which remains a work in progress. Trevor Goosby isn't fully healthy yet, Brandon Baker is still adjusting to his new role at guard, and now there's Seymore entering the mix. Make no mistake—Seymore was brought in with the expectation that he'd compete for a starting spot immediately. The staff has confidence in the other four starters, but Seymore needs to use this summer to step up and solidify the unit before Fall Camp arrives.
Then there's Lockett, whose injury situation adds another layer of urgency. He missed much of spring practice but has since returned to football activities. In my view, Lockett has the potential to be a true WR4 for this team—or he could find himself on the outside of the rotation looking in. The key will be building chemistry with Arch during this downtime, becoming a trusted target that gets him on the field. If Lockett can put it all together before fall camp, this wide receiver unit could be as dangerous as any in the country.
The summer months aren't just about rest—they're about preparation, growth, and seizing opportunity. For these Longhorns, a strong summer could change the trajectory of their season.
