It was a weekend of dominance on the track as local athletes claimed top honors at the Tri-Valley and Frontier League track and field finals. St. Bonaventure and Foothill Tech stole the spotlight, while the Santa Clara boys made history of their own.
At the Tri-Valley League Championships held Friday at Ventura College, St. Bonaventure junior Anna O'Neil was the undeniable star of the show. She powered to three individual titles—winning the 100-meter dash in 12.61 seconds, the 200-meter in 25.63, and the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 0.5 inches. As if that wasn't enough, she also anchored the 4x100 relay team alongside Wisdom Moore, Victoria Reneau, and Ella Bart to victory in 51.35 seconds.
On the boys' side, freshman Tony Dargan announced his arrival in a big way. The young Seraph swept the sprint events, blazing to wins in the 100-meter (10.93) and 200-meter (22.12). St. Bonaventure also saw Isabella Clutts take the girls' 100 hurdles (17.62), LaShea Randolph win the shot put (27-5.50), and Liam Purdy claim the long jump (19-0.50).
Foothill Tech was equally impressive, with three double champions leading the charge for the boys' team. Viggo Bortolin conquered the distance events, winning the 1,600 (4:26.10) and 3,200 (10:21.07). Asher Bayless dominated the hurdles, taking the 110 (16.25) and 300 (44.71), while Elijah Spencer showed his strength in the throws with wins in the discus (126-11) and shot put (45-05.50). Roman Bennett and Oliver Anthony shared the pole vault title (9-0), and the 4x400 relay team capped things off with a winning time of 3:36.34.
The Dragons' girls' team was paced by Keera Wallace, who doubled up in the 1,600 (5:15.06) and 3,200 (12:33.02). Bennett Rodman took the pole vault (8-0), Lyla Huff won the 400 (1:02.65), and Amelia Gerk claimed the discus (94-8). Thacher also made noise, with Lu Rodriguez winning the girls' 300 hurdles (49.29), Alec DiLullo taking the boys' 800 (2:00.15), and Rafa Keliher soaring to victory in the high jump (6-1). The Thacher boys' 4x100 relay team won in 46.26 after St. Bonaventure was disqualified for a zone violation.
Meanwhile, at the Frontier League Championships on Thursday at Villanova Prep, the Santa Clara boys' team captured their first team title since 2023 with a total of 55 points. Junior Davian Valladolid was a double champion, winning the 200 meters in 25.20 and the 400 in 55.65, while Franckel also contributed to the team's seven individual titles and one relay victory.
