The future of Lobo women's basketball just got brighter. On Friday, the program officially announced two exciting new additions to its roster, signaling a strong push under first-year head coach Amy Eagan.
The first signing brings a proven scorer to Albuquerque. Keiara Curtis, a 5-foot-8 guard transferring from the University of Hawai'i, arrives with immediate credentials. The Seattle native earned a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team after averaging 9 points per game and showcasing an efficient shooting touch, hitting 40.2% from the field and an impressive 38.5% from three-point range. Her well-rounded game also included 109 rebounds over 33 games, 18 of which she started.
Coach Eagan expressed clear enthusiasm for Curtis's potential, stating, "She is a true shifty point guard that can also score at all three levels. She had a great freshman year but has a ton of growth in her still. We look forward to coaching her and seeing the impact she will have in our program."
Hours later, the Lobos secured another key piece for their rebuild. Kate Wernli, a 5-foot-9 freshman from Bixby, Oklahoma, joins the squad following Coach Eagan from Lindenwood. Wernli, whose sister Gracy signed with UNM earlier in the week, brings a prolific high school scoring record. She averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game at Bixby High School, eclipsing 1,100 career points.
Eagan, familiar with Wernli's game, praised her versatility: "I have loved Kate’s game since the first time I watched her. She's a guard that can shoot it but also has the ability to get to the rim and finish. She’s very versatile with the ability to play multiple positions for us."
With these two dynamic guards now in the fold, the Lobos' roster for the 2026-27 season takes shape with 11 committed players, building a foundation for an exciting new era of New Mexico basketball.
