Liverpool fans will have to wait a little longer to see Mohamed Salah in action against Manchester United, as manager Arne Slot has confirmed the Egyptian superstar will miss this weekend's blockbuster Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The Reds travel to face their historic rivals on Sunday, but they'll be without their talismanic forward, who has been a tormentor-in-chief against United over the years. Salah boasts an incredible record in this fixture, netting 13 goals in just 16 league appearances against the Red Devils. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury has ruled him out of the trip, though Slot reassured supporters that the 33-year-old—who is set to leave Liverpool this summer—should be back before the season ends.
"He is always working incredibly hard during the season when he is fit and when he is injured to get back as soon as possible," Slot explained in his pre-match press conference. "Usually he is back earlier fit than other players. He has a minor injury and we expect and need him back for the final part of the season, but not for Sunday. It is a big relief that his injury is minor and he is able to play for us and at the World Cup. If a player deserves a big send off then it is Mo."
In other team news, there's a glimmer of hope for the return of goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian shot-stopper has been sidelined recently but is edging closer to a comeback. Slot, however, emphasized that the club won't rush him back. With second-choice Giorgi Mamardashvili also injured, third-choice Freddie Woodman could once again be called upon to guard the net.
"He hasn't trained with us yet but is very close to," Slot said of Alisson. "We will hear today from the medical staff if he can train today. We don't want to take any risks. There is a difference between a player and goalkeeper in terms of coming back."
