Liverpool fans have reason to smile as Alexander Isak returns to training ahead of tomorrow's crucial Premier League clash against Chelsea at Anfield. The Swedish striker missed last weekend's disappointing 3-2 defeat at Manchester United, adding to what has been an injury-plagued debut season on Merseyside.
With Champions League qualification on the line, the Reds need a victory to secure their spot in Europe's elite competition. Isak's potential availability comes as a timely boost for manager Arne Slot, who provided an update during his pre-match press conference.
"Alex has trained with us again, only for the first time, yesterday. That is positive. Yesterday he did parts of it [training]. Hopefully, he can do parts or all of it today. Then we will see how much we can use him tomorrow," Slot said.
However, not all news is positive on the injury front. Key players Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah remain sidelined, though both are reportedly nearing returns to first-team training. In a developing situation, new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to train with the squad today and could potentially replace Freddie Woodman between the sticks.
"Alisson not yet, hasn't trained with us yet but very close. Mamardashvili will train with us today for the first time, so let's see how he is going to react. Mo also hasn't trained with us yet but is also getting very, very close to train with us," Slot added.
As the lunchtime kickoff approaches, all eyes will be on Isak's fitness assessment today. A fully fit striker could be the difference-maker Liverpool need to edge past a resilient Chelsea side and punch their Champions League ticket. Stay tuned for more updates as team news develops.
