Liverpool have been making waves in the transfer market over the past year, and it looks like they're far from done. After a massive £400 million spending spree last summer that brought seven new faces to Anfield, the Reds have already kicked off 2024 with a February deal for Jeremy Jacquet. Now, as the club transitions from the Jurgen Klopp era to a new chapter shaped by Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes, and Arne Slot, the summer window is shaping up to be another busy one.

Jacquet wasn't the only player on Liverpool's radar during the winter window. The Reds explored several deals to bolster Slot's squad, and one that came closest to completion was for Lutsharel Geertruida. The versatile Dutchman—who can play both right-back and center-back—was seen as the perfect solution to Liverpool's injury crisis in defense. Many believed he'd "excel" under Slot if the move went through.

But despite the buzz, a deal never materialized, partly because Geertruida was already on loan at Sunderland. However, Liverpool might get a second chance. According to TEAMtalk, the Reds have maintained their interest in the 25-year-old and are keeping "close tabs" on his situation ahead of the transfer window opening on June 15.

Geertruida won't come cheap or easy, though. Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Leeds are also in the hunt, with Leeds hoping their Red Bull connections could give them an edge over RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, with Conor Bradley sidelined by injury and Jeremie Frimpong deployed on the right wing, there's still a spot at Anfield for Geertruida to fill.

It won't be a straightforward deal—other clubs can offer more guaranteed minutes—but Liverpool are likely to return for the man they targeted in the winter. For fans watching the transfer saga unfold, this is one to keep an eye on as the summer window approaches.
