Liverpool's summer transfer plans are reportedly accelerating as the club looks to address a growing concern in their attack. After spending over £400 million last summer, the Reds find themselves in an unexpected transition period rather than building on a title-winning campaign.

The departure of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, combined with the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, left Liverpool without a recognized striker. Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak were brought in to fill that void, but both have been plagued by injury setbacks in their debut seasons at Anfield. Ekitike is now likely to miss the remainder of 2026, leaving the center of Liverpool's attack as an area that urgently needs reinforcement this summer.

Given that the current strike partnership cost nearly £200 million, signing a third striker wasn't on many fans' radars just months ago. However, the injury woes have forced a change in plans. According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are now actively looking to add another option to bolster manager Arne Slot's attacking options.

Isak, who has struggled to settle at the club even when fit, will be Slot's only senior striker heading into next season. Adding backup will not only help the £125 million man settle but also allow Slot to get the best out of his star forward. The report claims Liverpool are ready to "accelerate" their summer plans as they edge closer to securing Champions League qualification, with a striker high on sporting director Richard Hughes' priority list.

Cody Gakpo was deployed as a makeshift center forward against Chelsea on Saturday, but it's clear the Dutchman isn't a viable long-term solution through the middle. Several potential options have been linked with moves to Merseyside since Ekitike's season-ending Achilles injury, and Hughes and his team will be assessing the market to find the right player to complement their existing squad.
