Lille OSC have set their sights on former Juventus and Bologna boss Thiago Motta as their top candidate to take over the managerial reins, with current head coach Bruno Génésio's future at the club hanging in the balance.

Génésio's contract is set to expire in June, and despite a strong season that has Lille in the hunt for Champions League qualification with just two games remaining, contract renewal talks have stalled. The French tactician did little to quiet the rumors in his latest press conference, confirming that discussions with the club have not moved forward—even as he acknowledged interest from other sides.

According to FootMercato, Lille president Olivier Létang is already working behind the scenes on a succession plan, and he's zeroing in on a foreign coach. At the top of his list? Thiago Motta.

The connection runs deep. Létang and Motta share a strong relationship dating back to their time together at Paris Saint-Germain, and Motta's coaching staff is packed with French ties—assistants Alexandre Hugeux, Simon Colinet, and Alfred Dossou-Yovo are all part of his trusted circle.

Motta has been without a club since leaving Juventus in March 2025, and he's hardly been short of suitors. Ajax, Wolverhampton, Fiorentina, and Atalanta have all come knocking, with the latter reportedly a particularly appealing option for the Italian-Brazilian tactician. But none of those conversations turned into a concrete deal, as Motta has been holding out for a project that aligns with his footballing philosophy and European ambitions.

Lille believe they can offer exactly that. With a proud history of developing talent and competing on the continental stage, the French side sees Motta as the ideal man to lead them into a new chapter—one that could begin as soon as this summer.
