The New York Liberty's preseason got a little scary on Sunday night as star guard Sabrina Ionescu left the team's matchup against the Connecticut Sun with a lower leg injury.

With just over five minutes left in the third quarter, Ionescu drove hard to the basket and attempted a reverse layup. But her landing went wrong—she came down awkwardly, immediately grabbing at her left shin. The crowd fell quiet as she limped off the court, grimacing with every step, though she managed to make it to the locker room under her own power.

The Liberty later ruled her out for the remainder of the game, citing a lower leg injury. While the team didn't provide immediate details on the severity, the quick exit raised eyebrows. Head coach Chris DeMarco had already begun resting his starters in the second half—a standard preseason approach—but Ionescu's sudden departure suggested more than just a precautionary move.

Before the injury, Ionescu had logged 16 minutes and scored six points. The Liberty went on to win 79-67, but the focus quickly shifted to their star guard's health. With the regular season just around the corner, Liberty fans will be holding their breath for an update on one of the WNBA's brightest talents.
