Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has opened up about the defining moment of their 2025-26 Serie A title triumph, revealing that a series of honest, behind-closed-doors conversations following the March international break turned their season around.
"After the last break, it was a key phase—not just for the league, but for us as a group," Martinez told Sky Sport. "We felt we were struggling a bit, and we told each other many things, even tough ones. But they were very useful."
The Nerazzurri clinched the Scudetto with three games to spare and now turn their attention to the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio next Wednesday—a team they beat 3-0 in Rome last Saturday. Currently unbeaten in their last nine matches across all competitions, Inter's resurgence has been nothing short of remarkable.
"I think we've taken a clear step forward as a group in recent games," Martinez added. "Many showed what they hadn't been able to do before. There are people who have brought out so much more than they were capable of. It gives me great satisfaction and pride to play with them. There were guys who suffered a lot because of their national team matches, but we came together."
When asked about his future, the Argentine striker was emphatic: "I have no reason to go elsewhere." A statement that will delight Inter fans and solidify his place as the club's long-term leader.
Martinez also shared insights into his partnership with strike partner Marcus Thuram, describing their contrasting personalities as the secret to their success. "We are very different, and it's something that makes us get along," he explained. "He is a very cheerful person, he jokes a lot, and in moments of tension and pure adrenaline, he manages to provide balance. You can all see which type of player he is, but it is the strength of the group that makes you close a circle to achieve goals."
Speaking the same language has also helped. "Since he arrived, speaking the same language has helped me a lot. He behaves the same way with everyone, and I thank him for that."
With the Scudetto secured and a Coppa Italia final on the horizon, Inter's captain has made one thing clear: the best is yet to come from this squad—and he's not going anywhere.
