After a record-breaking season that saw the Bemidji State Beavers roar out of the gates, head coach Kyle Fodness has been recognized as the NSIC Coach of the Year for women's tennis—the first time a BSU coach has earned the honor since 1999.
In his seventh season at the helm, Fodness orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, guiding the Beavers to a 10-8 overall record. That mark not only represents the most wins during his tenure but also gives the program its first winning season since 2019. The strong performance earned Bemidji State a No. 6 seed in the NSIC Tournament, marking their first postseason appearance since 2021.
The season began with a bang as the Beavers posted a 6-0 start—the hottest opening stretch in program history. That early momentum set the tone for a campaign that ultimately put Fodness in elite company. He becomes just the third coach in Bemidji State women's tennis history to receive the NSIC Coach of the Year award, following Reva Howe (1999) and an earlier honoree.
For a program that has been building steadily under Fodness's leadership, this recognition signals a bright future—and a testament to the power of consistency, hard work, and a winning mindset on and off the court.
