Kristoffer Reitan wasn't even supposed to be in the field for the last two Signature Events, but the PGA Tour rookie turned an unlikely opportunity into a debut victory at the Truist Championship on Sunday. In a performance that defied expectations, Reitan's win was powered by two new clubs that made their tournament debut in his bag: a Ping G440 K driver and a custom PLD-branded Ping Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue H putter.
The putter, in particular, has a fascinating backstory. When the Tour stopped at the WM Phoenix Open back in February, Reitan visited the Ping PLD putting lab, looking to fine-tune his stroke. What he discovered surprised him—he needed a completely different setup. "We could see, and he saw the numbers, suggested that he needed some toe down," explained Ping Principal Design Engineer Tony Serrano. "He didn't really fit that great with a face balance putter. He needed something that would match his natural putting stroke."
After extensive testing, Reitan settled on the Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue H—a Tour-only variant of the Ally Blue Onset model, but fitted with a plumber's neck. He fell in love with everything about it: the soft feel and smooth roll from the PEBAX insert, the clean white finish, and how naturally the putter released through his stroke. But there was one tweak he wanted—a simple full sight line instead of the standard EyeQ version's dot-and-trailing-line design. Serrano delivered, building Reitan a custom PLD version right in the Ping machine shop.
The result? A putter that perfectly matched his stroke and a first PGA Tour win that no one saw coming. For golfers looking to channel a bit of that underdog magic, Reitan's bag proves that the right equipment—and a willingness to fine-tune it—can make all the difference.
