A cool off-season perk for Knueppel

Kon Knueppel is making the most of his NBA off-season, and it's not just about hitting the gym or working on his jump shot. The former Duke standout and current Milwaukee native recently stepped onto a different kind of court—the podcast studio—for a memorable sit-down on "The Old Man and The Three," the show once hosted by Duke legend JJ Redick.

During the episode, Knueppel got to hang out with none other than Christian Yelich, the Milwaukee Brewers' star left fielder. For a guy who bleeds his hometown pride, this was a cool off-season perk that goes beyond the typical player interviews. It's a glimpse into what makes Knueppel tick: loyalty to his roots, his faith, and his family.

Knueppel has always been a player who lets his game do the talking. He's been underestimated time and again, partly because he doesn't seek the spotlight. He just shows up, does his job, and does it well. But if you listen closely, you'll hear the values that drive him. He's deeply religious, though he never makes a big show of it. He teases his younger brothers—who are still in high school and middle school—but clearly prioritizes time with them, even as he navigates life in the NBA.

And then there's his love for Milwaukee. In the podcast, Knueppel shared a telling story about Jamal Cain, a former Marquette player. During a game, Knueppel told Cain, "Hey, I used to watch you play." Cain didn't believe him—until Knueppel explained he grew up in Milwaukee and had seen him suit up for Marquette before Cain transferred to Oakland. That's the kind of genuine, unassuming connection Knueppel brings to every interaction.

It's no wonder that when his former Duke teammate Cooper Flagg was asked what three things he'd take to a deserted island, he replied: "A gun, some food…and Kon Knueppel." That says everything about the kind of teammate and person Knueppel is—reliable, grounded, and always ready to have your back.
