Sam Kerr bid the perfect farewell to Chelsea with a stunning winner to beat Man Utd 1-0 in her final game for the club.

Sam Kerr delivered the perfect farewell to Chelsea, scoring a stunning winner in her final appearance for the club to secure a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. The Australian superstar, who departs as Chelsea's all-time top WSL goalscorer, volleyed home Lauren James' deep cross 11 minutes before halftime for her 116th goal in all competitions for the Blues.

Despite the emotional victory, Chelsea were forced to settle for third place in the Women's Super League table. Arsenal's emphatic win at Liverpool kept the Gunners above Chelsea in the final standings, meaning the Blues miss out on automatic qualification for next season's Women's Champions League. It marks the first time in seven years that Chelsea have been dethroned as WSL champions, with Manchester City taking the title.

United, who came into the match having failed to win any of their previous 14 WSL meetings with Chelsea, struggled to contain the Blues in the opening 45 minutes. However, the visitors mounted a stronger challenge after halftime. Ellen Wangerheim, making only her third WSL start since joining from Hammarby in January, came closest to equalizing when her header from Jess Park's cross struck the woodwork. Dominique Janssen also tested Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton with a dangerous 25-yard free-kick that flashed just wide of the far post.

The match ended on a worrying note for Chelsea as Hampton was forced off in the final minutes after aggravating a knock sustained earlier in the game. Her replacement, Livia Peng, saw out the remainder of the match. The injury raises questions about Hampton's availability for England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month.

For Kerr, the goal was a fitting conclusion to her legendary Chelsea career. She departs as the club's all-time leading WSL scorer with 67 league goals. While the Blues couldn't secure second place, Kerr's final act ensured the season ended on a high note at Stamford Bridge.
