Apr. 20—SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team split a pair of dual competitions on Monday in a triangular with Sioux Falls Christian and Lennox at Tomar Park.

The Kernels opened the day with a 9-0 dual loss to the Chargers, their second of the season, followed by a convincing 8-1 dual win over the Orioles to push their record to 7-2 on the season.

In the first dual against Sioux Falls Christian, the Chargers claimed all six singles and all three doubles matches. Asher Dannenbring made it back into the No. 2 singles and doubles spot for Mitchell, taking the place of Jakobi Brink after recovering from an injury. In his first singles match of the season, he earned the closest match of his peers in a 7-5, 6-3 loss to SF Christian's Elijah Lindgren in Flight 2. In doubles play, Mitchell's Simon Wiese and Patrick Morgan had the tightest match in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat to SF Christian's Lindgren and Jacob Woodward at No. 3.

In the second dual against the Orioles, the Kernels strolled to their seventh victory of the season, losing only one match. Mitchell's Dannenbring picked up his first singles match victory of the year at No. 2 without dropping a single game, while Dawson Adams also won in Flight 4 without losing a set. Cooper Star claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles, while Wiese matched that scoreline for a win at No. 5 for the Kernels. In Flight 6, Morgan earned a victory over SF Christian's Riley Nelson 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles action, Dannenbring and Adams cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2, while Wiese and Morgan secured a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3. In Flight 1, Matthew Mauszycki and Star added a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 10-3 victory to bolster the Kernels' effort.

Mitchell (7-2, 3-0 ESD) hosts Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Jefferson in a triangular next, starting at noon on Tuesday, April 21 at Hitchcock Park in Mitchell.
