Apr. 21—MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School boys tennis team split a pair of home dual competitions on Tuesday in a triangular with Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Jefferson at Hitchcock Park.

The Kernels opened the day with a 9-0 dual loss to the Patriots, followed by a convincing 9-0 dual win over the Cavaliers to push their record to 8-3 on the season.

In the first dual against Sioux Falls Lincoln, the Patriots claimed all six singles and all three doubles matches. At No. 5 singles, Mitchell's Simon Wiese earned the closest match of his peers in a 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-7 match tiebreak loss to Sioux Falls Lincoln's Giyun Seo. In doubles play, Mitchell's Asher Dannenbring and Dawson Adams had the tightest match in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Sioux Falls Lincoln's Seo and Simeon Seruyange in Flight 2.

In the second dual against the Cavaliers, the Kernels strolled to its eighth victory of the season, not dropping a single match in a 10-set format. After Mitchell's Matthew Mauszycki had to withdraw with an injury in his singles match against Sioux Falls Lincoln in the first dual, teammate Jakobi Brink took his spot at No. 1 singles and earning a 10-5 victory.

Mitchell's Dannenbring earned a 10-0 victory at No. 2 singles over Sioux Falls Jefferson's Cooper Nielsen, while Cooper Star (No. 3), Adams (No. 4), Wiese (No. 5) and Patrick Morgan (No. 6) each picked up convincing victories in their respective singles flights.

In doubles action, Mitchell's Wiese and Morgan cruised to a 10-0 victory at Flight 3, while Dannebring and Adams secured a 10-1 win at No. 2. In Flight 1, Liam Schiefen took the place of Mauszycki and paired up with his doubles partner Cooper Star, adding a 10-2 victory over Sioux Falls Jefferson's Carter Kemmis and Nielsen to bolster the Kernels' effort.

Mitchell (8-3) will compete next in the Rapid City Invitational, starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25 at the Sioux Park Complex in Rapid City.
