The Kellogg Community College baseball team isn't just winning; they're on a historic tear. The nationally-ranked Bruins recently concluded a dominant 23-game winning streak, a run of form that has solidified their status as a powerhouse in junior college baseball.
This remarkable stretch, which spanned from a February 19th victory over Aquinas College JV to an April 11th loss to Lansing Community College, ranks among the best in the storied history of the KCC program. It’s the kind of momentum that transforms a good team into a feared one, where confidence becomes contagious in the dugout.
Head coach Eric Laskovy, who has been at the heart of the program's success for years, captured the feeling perfectly. "You get things clicking... and all of a sudden, things start snowballing and you really don't know how to lose at that point," he said. This streak was punctuated by a major personal milestone for Laskovy, who secured his 700th career victory with an 18-4 win over Jackson College on April 13th.
The Bruins' success is built on a foundation of explosive offense. The lineup is a nightmare for opposing pitchers, featuring ten hitters batting over .300. Leading the charge is Lakeview graduate Zach Kucharczyk, who is putting up video game numbers with a staggering .505 batting average, 49 RBI, and 55 runs in just 33 games. He's supported by his twin brother, Jake Kucharczyk (.386), and slugger Jake Stickler (.379, team-high 51 RBI).
On the mound, the pitching staff has been equally effective in supporting the offensive onslaught. Caleb Kidd remains undefeated at 4-0, while Daniel Calhoun (4-1, 3.03 ERA) and Joshua Midbo (4-0, 1.?? ERA) have provided reliable, game-controlling performances. This combination of relentless hitting and steady pitching is a classic blueprint for a championship-caliber team, and the Bruins are showing no signs of slowing down as they chase their ultimate goals.
