David Ornstein has provided fresh insight into Michael Carrick's future at Manchester United, as speculation continues to swirl that he could be named the club's permanent manager. Following today's victory, the Englishman's record since taking over in mid-January stands at an impressive 10 wins, two draws, and just two defeats—a remarkable turnaround for a side that once looked low on confidence and creativity.

What makes Carrick's tenure truly standout is how he has revitalized a struggling United team, guiding them to emphatic wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool. The latter victory secured the club's first league double over their Merseyside rivals in a decade, though credit also goes to Ruben Amorim for the earlier Anfield result. More importantly, this afternoon's result locked up United's spot in the 2026/2027 Champions League, the primary goal set by INEOS when Carrick was appointed.

With most top-tier managers currently tied to their clubs, the biggest threat to Carrick landing the role permanently appears to be Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard is preparing for his final three matches at the Vitality Stadium before moving on, and Fabrizio Romano has previously confirmed Iraola would be open to managing United—a fact that INEOS chiefs have surely noted.

Ornstein shared his thoughts during NBC Sports' broadcast of the United vs. Liverpool match, later posting on Instagram: "Champions League qualification was the aim when Michael Carrick was put in charge to replace Ruben Amorim. But when that was set as the goal, it was not automatic that he would receive the job as a prize for it. Of course, Carrick has done fantastically well so far and put himself in a really strong position to get the role permanently. It would feel very difficult not to give it to him now in the eyes of many."
