Mississippi State fans, get ready to hear "Let's call 12 one more time!" The Bulldogs' brightest star, junior guard Josh Hubbard, has announced he will return to Starkville for his senior season in 2026-27.
In a heartfelt social media video on April 17, the Madison native expressed his deep connection to the program and the state. "Playing at Humphrey Coliseum has meant a lot to me," Hubbard said. "It’s very important to me in my life to play here for my home state... The kind of memories I’ve made in Starkville will last a lifetime."
This is massive news for Coach Chris Jans and the Bulldogs. Hubbard has been the team's undisputed offensive engine, leading the team in scoring in each of his three seasons. Last year, he posted a career-high 22.1 points per game, cementing his status as one of the SEC's premier scorers.
Despite a challenging 13-19 season that saw MSU miss the NCAA Tournament, Hubbard's individual accolades are undeniable. He is a three-time All-SEC selection and a three-time recipient of the Howell Trophy, awarded to Mississippi's top college basketball player.
For a program looking to bounce back, having a veteran leader and prolific scorer like Hubbard back in the lineup is the perfect foundation. His decision to "finish what he started" brings experience, firepower, and hope to Humphrey Coliseum, setting the stage for an exciting final chapter in his standout collegiate career.
