Trying to find the right temperature to get his game cooking at the PGA has proven elusive for Jordan Spieth.

Jordan Spieth has a unique way of describing his quest for golf's ultimate prize: it's all about finding the right temperature. The three-time major champion, who is chasing the career Grand Slam at this week's PGA Championship, recently compared his game to smoking meat at home—a slow, steady process that requires patience and precision.

"It got up to 155 quickly and then takes awhile," Spieth explained during his pre-tournament press conference at Aronimink Golf Club. "I was like, 'man, this kind of feels like what I'm trying to do in the swing.' It's there, it's close. It's matching what I want to do. It feels good and it's producing the right stuff."

That analogy hits close to home for the 31-year-old, who is still searching for his first PGA Tour win in four years. Coming off wrist surgery in late 2024, Spieth has shown flashes of his old brilliance this season—four top-12 finishes and just one missed cut in 12 starts. His putting, which slipped to 101st in 2024, has climbed back to 34th. But that final spark—the ability to contend on Sunday—has remained just out of reach.

Now, Spieth steps onto the tee at Aronimink for his 10th attempt at the Wanamaker Trophy. A win here would make him just the seventh player in history to complete the career Grand Slam, joining legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Ben Hogan. He already holds the Masters (2015), U.S. Open (2015), and British Open (2017) titles—the PGA is the last piece of the puzzle.

For golf fans and sports enthusiasts alike, Spieth's journey is a reminder that greatness isn't always instant. Sometimes, like a perfectly smoked brisket, it just needs a little more time to reach the right temperature. And when it does? The results are worth the wait.
