Cesena goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, the son of former Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann, has broken a vertebra in his neck during the second division match against Palermo on Saturday.

The club said in a statement late on Sunday that "initial tests revealed a fracture to the first cervical vertebra" and a cut to the back of the head.

He left the pitch with a neck brace after a collision with a Palermo player and was taken to a hospital. The player is set for further tests with a specialist neurosurgeon.

Jonathan Klinsmann has been playing at Cesena since 2024.
