New York Giants linebacker Arvell Reese is making an early splash at rookie minicamp, earning high praise from head coach John Harbaugh just two days into his professional journey. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defender has impressed with a flawless start, showing no missed assignments during the initial practices.
"He's a very natural-looking mover off the ball, which is something we saw on tape," Harbaugh told reporters. "We thought we saw it, but now we've confirmed it on the practice field, so that feels great. He picks things up really quickly. He's very serious-minded and diligent about his assignments. I don't think he's gotten a single assignment wrong over the two days—that's awesome to see."
Reese credits his smooth transition to intense film study and extra coaching from Frank Bush and Matt Pees. "Just studying, and credit to Coach Bush—he spent a lot of time with me and Jack Kelly pouring the playbook into us, and Coach Pees as well. It's all about studying and the coaches, for sure," Reese said.
The versatile WILL linebacker role in the Giants' defense has been a perfect fit for Reese, who played multiple positions at Ohio State. "It's always fun for me, especially when I think about all the different roles I can play. Right now, we're only two days in, so I've only been introduced to a small part of the defense. But I'm really looking forward to exploring more," he added.
Harbaugh also highlighted Reese's athleticism, noting, "He moves like a smaller guy. He's quick with his feet and can flip his hips." This flexibility means Reese will line up in various spots, giving the Giants creative ways to leverage his size and movement skills early in his career. For fans and gear enthusiasts alike, Reese's fast start is a promising sign for the Giants' defensive future.
