Philadelphia beat Boston in a series for the first time since 1982, and it was the first time the 76ers ever came from 3-1 down to win.

Joel Embiid had enough of losing to the Celtics. On a historic night in Philadelphia, the 76ers' superstar finally broke through, powering his team to a 109-100 Game 7 victory and completing a stunning 3-1 series comeback—the first in franchise history.

Embiid was unstoppable, pouring in 34 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, with 16 of those points coming from sheer force in the paint. But he didn't do it alone. Tyrese Maxey caught fire at the perfect moment, scoring eight consecutive points in the clutch and finishing with 30 on the night. When the game hung in the balance, Maxey took over, electrifying the crowd and sealing the win.

The Celtics, meanwhile, couldn't buy a bucket from deep. Boston shot a woeful 13-of-49 from 3-point range (26.5%) and missed all nine of their attempts in the final five minutes. That cold spell proved costly, as Philadelphia snapped a decades-long drought—beating Boston in a Game 7 for the first time since 1982. It's also the first time the Celtics have ever blown a 3-1 series lead (they're now 32-1 in those situations).

"What changed this series is Joel Embiid came back and they're a completely different team," said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. Indeed, Embiid's presence transformed the 76ers, who now advance to face a rested New York Knicks team starting Monday night at Madison Square Garden.

Boston was dealt a cruel blow before tip-off, losing star Jayson Tatum to left leg stiffness. Tatum had battled back from a torn Achilles last playoffs to be on the court for this series, only to miss the biggest game of the season. On the other side, Embiid earned a cathartic moment—he was 0-for-3 in Game 7s in his career and gutted through a sore knee after Maxey fell into him late in the game.

From the opening tip, this night belonged to Philadelphia. Mazzulla tried to spark his team with a dramatic lineup change, starting Baylor Scheirman, Luka Garza, and Ron Harper Jr. alongside Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. But even that shake-up couldn't stop the 76ers' historic run.
