Joe Rogan has voiced concerns that Khamzat Chimaev might be sidelined once again by injury, as the former UFC middleweight champion looks to rebound from his first professional MMA loss.
Chimaev, who fell to Sean Strickland at UFC 328, is reportedly eyeing a return to action—but not necessarily inside the Octagon. During a recent podcast episode, Rogan weighed in on Chimaev's future, reacting to Brendan Schaub's suggestion that "Borz" should follow the path of active grapplers like Arman Tsarukyan.
"I don't know if he's interested in doing that," Rogan replied. "Here is my fear. There was a recent event that was a very weird event. I don't know who did it, but it was kicks to the legs, punches to the body, and jiu-jitsu. It was weird."
The UFC commentator then recalled a specific incident involving Gleison Tibau, who suffered an injury during an awkward takedown attempt. "So that could happen to f—— anybody… Wrestlers blow their knees out all the time. It's just part of the craziness of explosive movement," Rogan added.
Following his UFC 328 defeat, Chimaev initially told UFC president Dana White he would move up to light heavyweight. However, the 15-1 Russian has since shifted his focus. According to Chimaev's brother, Artur, the team is pushing for an immediate rematch with Strickland—ideally at an event in Abu Dhabi in October.
"We've requested a rematch with Strickland," Artur Chimaev said. "Khamzat isn't the type of person to move to another weight class and leave unanswered questions behind. We want that second fight. Right now we have no other goals."
As Chimaev navigates this pivotal moment in his career, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if he can bounce back—and whether injury concerns will once again disrupt his momentum.
